Hello Jay,
The existing ramp was cleaned up and repaired. I wasn't aware that a permit would be required for
this type of repair and clean-up. The repair is made with non-permanent materials, essentially side-
by-side, two-inch thick stepping stones and wood timber. They are not 3 1/2 inch pavers. In fact, I
typically have to repair the first 2-3 rows every spring due to the ice.
As you are aware, a representative of the County came out and visited the property around August
of 2022 and took photos of the ramp. After understanding the reason for his visit, as you can
imagine, I was quite concerned. He indicated to me that if there was any problem I would get
notified. And further, that if I did not hear anything, there would be no issue.
I'm quite shocked and astonished that after approximately 15 months since his visit, that I am only
now hearing about this. What is the reason for the delay in notifying me? And, why is it that this is
being brought to my attention now after a year plus has elapsed since the site inspection? Also,
how long does a resident and property owner need to wait to not hear anything to be assured that
an inspection of a potential violation is not a violation afterall, especially after a County
Representative visit? Unapologetically, you may sense that I am somewhat dismayed that it took
significantly over a year for me to be notified on this matter. That just seems untimely, unfair and
unjust.
I do not intend to make any excuses for repairing the ramp that I am rightly entitled to. As you and I
have worked together before on my other projects, I'm confident you know me to be honest and
transparent in my dealings with you and the County. If I had known that a permit was required, I
would have certainly applied for one. I wasn't trying to "sneak" anything in. Curiously, why would a
permit be required for repairing the existing ramp with non-permanent materials anyway?
Be that as it may, I have completed the permit request and have attached it and a
supporting document to this email. The information has been provided to the best of my ability, but
I was unable to answer the Floodplain questions, or make the calculation of the permit fee.
Perhaps your office has the floodplain information on file, and you could provide me with the
amount of the fee.
Also, I was unable to locate any photos of the ramp prior to my repair for this submission. I believe
you referenced an aerial photo confirming the older ramp in a separate email string.
Lastly, due to the circumstances surrounding this matter, including the delay in notification, I
respecifully request that the double permit fee be waived in favor of the regular fee.

property over the last few years. This type of replacement would have required a permit from our office.A permit woulci
only be issued for replacement within the existing footprint. If replacement occurred into the existing footprint it will still
require a Land Use Permit from our office with a double permit fee. I have attached the Sawyer County Land Use
Permit. Please fill this permit out and submit is back to our office. If you know the size of the area that was replaced
please let me know and I can calculate permit fees.Also, do you have photos of the existing boat ramp?
