Jay, Thank you for the opportunity to provide comments for the requests appearing before the Sawyer County Zoning Committee on June 16, 2023. The following are general comments regarding shoreland zoning as they relate to the requests. These comments relate to the requirements of the Sawyer County Zoning Shoreland-Wetland Protection Ordinance and the summary information you provided. Alcoe Rezone Request. The department understands there are wetlands on the property in question. The department recommends ensuring any use associated with the applicant's request meet applicable shoreland-wetland requirements, including remaining outside any wetlands and not creating discharge to any wetlands. Also note that a rezone from RR-1 to A-1 does not change the overlaying shoreland/wetland district and associated requirements. Laures CUP Request. The department understands there are wetlands on the property in question. The department recommends ensuring the proposed non-metallic mining operation associated with the applicant's request meet any/all applicable shoreland zoning requirements (including shoreland setbacks and shoreland land disturbance criteria) and shoreland-wetland requirements (including remaining outside any wetlands and not creating discharge to any wetlands). 1 Thank you again for the opportunity to provide comments.
