Box 9414 Hayward, WI 54843 Deaz DarreL• This letter is in response to our meeting on September 30, 1997 at R & R Bayview Resort. Thank you for promptly informing me of the bank that fell into the Chippewa Flowage. Obviously this requires immediate attention, as well as a long term erosion control plan. My immediate concem is that the bank be stabilized and the azea of concem be contained. A few simple actions can be done to meet these objectives: 1. The fallen bank shall be covered with some rype of excelsior mat or tarp to catch any fallen sediment. The idea is to prevent more sediment from filling the flowage inlet. 2. Upland run-off shall be deflected from its normal route to reduce the amount of erosion to an already susceptible bank. 3. Siltation fencing shall be properly installed within the spill area of the inlet. This is necessary to contain the problem area and reduce the amount of sediment that will need to be removed. When I spoke to you on the phone October 2, 1997 I informed you that the water level of the Chippewa Flowage is cunently being drawn down. The draw down dates are September 24, 1997 to October 8, 1997. I understand this provides you with limited time; however, it will be the best time to properly install siltation fencing. Once the bank is stabilized, please submit a plan to repair the fallen bank for approval before beginning construction. I suggest that your long term plan include an investigation into proper land management and consider the steepness of the slope. This will greatly reduce the run-off erosion the slope is currently experiencing. Please stabilize and contain the spill area as described in the steps above by November 1, 1997. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call.
