RE: Approximate Assessed Values
Dear Mr. Heath:
I have been asked to render an opinion with regard to Sawyer County Ordinance #9.21(5). That
ordinances provides that no land use permit shall be issued for any structure moved or placed that
does not have an approximate assessed value of surrounding structures within 500 feet. It further
provides that determination of assessed value shall be established by the Town Assessor.
It is my opinion that the approximate assessed value would equal 65% of the value of the
surrounding structures, excluding land values. For example, the approximate assessed value of a
$50,000.00 home would equal a home valued at $35,000.00. The following formula could be
used in arriving at the approximate assessed value:
