Cabins # 6 & 7.
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Gedart
The Town of Round Lake a�d DNR received complaints of zoning and sewer violations in
the old Kateri ResordCondo complex on Lower Twin Lakes.
O� April 4, 1999 I met with Sue Miller, Wisconsin DNR, to veriYy whether or nor the
complaints were valid.
We discovercd the following violations on your property.
1.) 3/a inch plastic water pipe running to the 2 white sheds by the drive way. It appears
that you have a washer/dryer in the building. Does the water discharge to a code-
complying septic sewer system? We could nol locate one. We discovered your
neighbor, Thelan is draining into the wetland!��
2.) The sewer system in front of cabin#6, #11475N is failing and thc bottom is at or near
thc back wetland water level. All sewer systems must have 3 feet of suitable
unsaturated soils for sewage puritication before it re�enters the groundwater table.
3.) Where does the sewage discharge of cabin#7, 11473N go? I found 4 inch diameter
clay tile pipe running towards the neighbors (Thelan) dry well. Is it hooked up to the
Thelans failing drywell that is 3 feet below the wetland water 1eve1, (see inspection
reports).
You are in violation of the private sewage code 11.8 (5) improper waste discharge
(enclosed).
We will not iss�c citations if we get your full cooperation and that you correct these
violations.
I will set forth the following requirements and deadlines:
1.) IY the washer water does not drain into a code complying septic/sewer system STOP
the discharge immediately.
2.) You have a failing sewer system(s) that must be replaced. You must get a soil test and
sanitary permit on or before 1 JULY, 1999 and to have a code complying septic/sewer
system installed by 1 SEPTEMBER, 1999,
Enclosed please fmd my documeutation and a list of plumbers and soil testers. Should you
have any questions please write or call.
Unfortunately, due to the complaint, we discovered that most of the old Kateri complex �
has old drywells sitting in ground water. The raw sewage generated in the seasonal
cabins is going directly into the ground water table, thus causing a pollution hazard. I
would also recommend that all cottage owners test their drinking water.
