Summary:
Mitigation of non-conforming shoreline on Round Lake must be completed in order to be
eligible for a land use permit for the purpose of a planned addition to the home located
on this property.
Proposed Mitigation Plan:
A Rain Garden will be constructed to treat water coming from the northeast portion of the
current roof. This is approximately 25%of the current projected roof sudace. This area
is approximately 312 square feet,which meets the mitigation requirement of 251-500
square feet of treated space. The garden will be a minimum of 53 square feet in size,
and the center will be located approximately 10 feet away from the northeast corner of
the ezisting home structure- There is already a gradual slope of the yard from the house
to this area, and a natural small depression already exists. The soil in this area has
been evaluated and is a"sandy"soil type. A rain gutter will be installed on this area of
the roof, and a downspout at the corner will direct the rain water towards the new rain
garden. See attached sketch for more details.
A minimum of ten(10)plants will be planted in the rain garden. The type of plants will be
selected for the sandy soil type, semi-shady light preference(there are many trees in the
proposed location), and availability for purchase at local nurseries. The bottom of the
garden will be flled with mulch until the plants fll out enough so that the mulch is no
longer required.
Calculations(following the Rain Gardens guide from Wisconsin DNR):
Current projected roof surtace area is 29'x 43'= 1247 square feet.
Treatment area is approximately 25%of roof surface, 025 x 1247 sq.ft.=312 sq.ft.
For a sandy soil type,the recommended area of the rain garden is 0.17 x 312 sq.ft.=53
