Re: "Order for Correction", sanitation, camping and roof canopy over 8 ' x 25 ' trailer, on
land use permit, S W 1 /4 /N W 1 /4 S 2 T 3 8N R 8 W, Borrie Rd.
Dear Mr. & Mrs. McDermott,
I addressed a complaint of camping and a roof canopy constructed on your
property on 11 -21 -01 . As out of area residents, you may not be aware of our County
Zoning/Sanitation regulations. I ish you would have contacted our office to find out
our Land Use Ordinances.
You are in violation of the following:
1 .) Land use permit: The 12' x 25 ' roof canopy over the camper is in violation of
our County ordinance. The roof canopy is considered an accessory structure
which requires a land-use permit. However, an accessory land use permit would
not be issued unless you have a primary habitable structure on the property. The
camping trailer does not meet the criteria of a habitable structure nor meets the
500 square foot minimum requirement.
2.) Camping: Sawyer County has enforced a NO Camping Ordinance since 1971 .
However, the county board has advised the zoning staff not to enforce the
camping ordinance for the last 2 years. Recently, due to camping complaints, the
county board is going to address the camping ordinance in the next few months.
We hope to have a decision from the towns and county board within 4-6 months.
(See enclosed paper article)
Since the camping ordinance is in limbo, you are not in violation of the camping
ordinance at this time. However, if the county board enforces the NO Camping
ordinance you may be required to remove your camper within 30-60 days of
passage of the county board ruling.
3 .) Sanitation: Does your camper have a self-contained sewage holding tank?
Where do you dispose of the effluent? It must be deposited into a sanitation
dump station. During the last 2 years although camping has been allowed, we
have required that all campers get a sanitary permit and construct an
outhouse/privy. If you decide to leave the camper on the property please get a
sanitary permit on or before 1 January 2002. (Permit enclosed)
Enclosed please find my inspection report, ordinance sections,violation/citation
information and privy permit.
Again I will remind you that our office will require the following:
1.)Remove the roof over your camper on or before 1 January 2002.
2.)Fill out the privy permit information, return with$100.00 fee on or before 1
January 2002.
3.)If and when the County/Townships adopt a new camping ordinance we have
been instructed that all campers be in compliance within 30 days.
Should you have any questions please write or call.
Sincerely,
. ..`
Merton Maki
