Re: "Order for Correction", failed, collapsed septic sewer system, 6842N Victory Heights

Dear Mr. Olson,
Our office received a complaint/violation on your property. (Copy enclosed). Zoning
Technician, Eric Wellauer and I conducted an on-site inspection of your property on April
4t" 2004. It appears that the interior reconstruction that you are doing does not require a
land-use permit and is ok.
However, the old existing septic sewer system is another matter. Please refer to my
inspection report plot plan. Approximately 30' from your home is a depression; I suspect
that this area is an old septic tank and or drywell. Please note that it is collapsing and
caving in. Approximately 45' from your home is a collapsed "open" brick lined dry well
pit.
Your system is more than likely 40-60 years old and is failing and not code compliant. The
open pit drywell is a hazard to the health, safety and welfare of your family, the neighbors,
and to household pets.
Consider this letter as an "Order for Correction," prior to habitation of the cabin or no
later than the ls� of September 2004 you must have a code complying septic sewer system
installed. I would remind you that you should "immediatelv" cover the collapsed drywell
pit with suitable material such as 4'x 8' sheets of plywood. As it is now,you are subject to
severe liability should a person or household pet fall into the pit, get killed or injured.
Enclosed is a list of soil testers and plumbers that install septic/sewer systems. Should you
have any questions please write or call Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 4:00
p.m.

Dear Sir,
It has come to our attention that a ossible violation is occurring at the Robert Olson
propert � ` + �'' . n Lake Couderay in Sand Lake township. After
an e�ensive fire in the fall, which resulted in the cottage being totally gutted, a
rebuilding has been happening during the winter. This is a concern, but the greater
concern is a lack of a septic system for this structure. Many of the homeowners on this
peninsula are concerned that the sewage may be contaminating the ground water and the
beautiful lake. We believe that this problem should be addressed before the home
owner's job is completed. Thank you for your concern.
