Creation of a Nonconforming Dwelling
Dear Mrs.Jensen:
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the possible adverse consequences of
constructing the proposed additions onto your existing dwelling.
The existing dwelling is a conforming structure as it meets all required setbacks(i.e.,lot
line,road,lake etc.).Additions/improvements to conforming dwellings can generally be
accomplished with the issue of a Land Use Permit.However,the proposed addition/deck
to your dwelling will cause the dwelling to become nonconforming as the deck will be
approximately 71'from the lake(a 75'lake setback is required).
Additions/improvements to nonconforming dwellings usually require the prior approval
of a Variance by the Sawyer County Board of Appeals.Therefore,future additions to
your cabin may also require the prior approval of a variance.The current vaziance
application fee is$250.00.
